Tax Package Helps with Capital Purchases

“Economic Stimulus Package Includes Powerful Tax Incentives for Investment” from the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has details on the package – and what it can mean to businesses of all sizes.

Highlights include:

• Companies that purchase less than $800,000 worth of capital assets in a year can expense the first $250,000 of capital investments purchased in 2008.
• Some qualify for first-year bonus/accelerated depreciation – 50 percent of the cost of the investment.  (The remainder can be depreciated under regular depreciation rules.)  To qualify, the equipment must be purchased and placed into service in 2008.
• Small companies can take the advantage of the $250,000 deduction as well as the 50 percent expensing allowance.

Increased expensing limits for small business and the 50 percent “bonus” depreciation provision make 2008 a good year for investing in equipment.
